In December 2006, on the eve of its 25th Anniversary, National Gas embarked on a comprehensive Consumers Awareness program aimed at raising Gas safety awareness at two levels that are traditionally beyond the bottlers direct control; one - in consumer’s homes and two - within the distribution network.
Safety Tips were circulated with every cylinder to inform consumers about basic cylinder safety issues. Apart from this in a joint programme launched with the support of the ROP Civil Defence, Safety Leaflets were distributed in the capital region and in the interiors in order to educate consumers with basic Gas usage, safety and emergency information. Consumers are informed about Gas safety through periodic Road shows conducted in the capital and interior regions.
National Gas and Civil Defence are also jointly developing a Safety Training program for Distributors on cylinder handling, installation and emergency action. We feel that these efforts will go a long way in raising the safe and efficient use of LPG in homes and commercial establishments.
National Gas is also keen to raise the profile of LPG from being merely a household cooking fuel, to its true status as a clean, convenient and reliable alternative to polluting fuels. Internationally, these advantages of LPG are being utilized fruitfully and we aim to adapt the latest technologies to unleash the full potential of LPG to add value and benefit to the local community and industry.
