National Gas Company was set up from a vision to meet Gas consuptions need in the region. During the late 1970’s, the need to set up a local bottling plant was prompted by the problems faced by the local gas dealers, who had to travel to Dubai and Abu Dhabi to collect cylinders. Moreover there were frequent shortages due to Omani dealers being given last proirity. Our first Chairman, Mr. Mohd Abdul Rasool Al Jamali, a true visionary, was instrumental in setting up the National Gas Company.
National Gas began bottling operations in 1981 from its Rusayl plant heralding the beginning of the LPG industry in the Sultanate. Ever since, National Gas has retained its pioneering status in the industry by maintaining continuous growth and keeping firm to its commitment to high safety standards and consumer service. From a single plant set up 25 years back, the company gradually grew to have the largest network of bottling plants and tankers in the region, with a capability to meet the local consumers’ requirements reliably.
The Nizwa Plant was established in December 1987 supplies LPG to the Dhakhlia Region, Sohar Plant set up in March 1988 covers the Batinah Region, Ibra Plant set up in 1993 covers the Sharqiya Region, Sur Plant set up in the year 2001 covers the Sur Willayat, Musannah Plant set up in the year 2002 covers the mid-Batinah Region, Madha Plant set up in February 2003 covers the Musandam Region and Ibri Plant set up in April 2003 caters to the demands emanating from the Willayat of Ibri and adjacent areas.
In 2005, National Gas added one more feather to its cap by commissioning a state of the art Deodorising Plant, which provides an environment friendly alternative to ozone depleting CFCs for the Perfume and Insecticide industry.
Today National Gas Company retains its leadership position in the Omani market, having the largest LPG infrastructure and the highest consumer base in the Sultanate. National Gas bottles more than 2 million cylinders per annum apart from catering to industries spread across the country. Inspite of all the challenges, we continue to be pioneers in the industry and we plan to build further on our core values of Integrity, Safety and Reliability.
